RUNO – the Finnish for poem – was founded on a dream to create a luxury hotel experience elevated above everyday life, yet approachable and inviting. Each detail in the RUNO Hotel has been well-planned and designed, respecting the old while searching for the new.
THE PAST AND THE FUTURE
The hotel building, Valtimontalo, was completed well over one hundred years ago, and it has witnessed a lot in its time. Before Valtimontalo was built, Porvoo’s first inn, Astenius Inn, operated on the spot. Guests included Finland’s national poet, J. L. Runeberg, when he visited Porvoo for the first time. Valtimontalo features an additional point of interest: its lanterns portray the face of Väinämöinen, a hero in Finnish Karelian folklore and the main character in the Finnish national epic Kalevala by Elias Lönnrot, a Finnish physician, philologist, and collector of traditional Finnish oral poetry.
The history of Valtimontalo and the city of Porvoo’s culture, tourism, and Finnish traditions have inspired and motivated us. We hope that when you stay with us, you will sense the history of Valtimontalo and the city as expressed by the RUNO Hotel Porvoo.

The RUNO Hotel, an art nouveau building completed in 1912 next to the Porvoo Old Town’s gate, has been restored, preserving its original style. The interior’s modern rustic style highlights the temporal layers of recent history: the hotel combines Finnish and Nordic design with high-quality natural materials and a harmonious color palette.
In addition to a lounge, restaurant, and bar that are open to all, you are welcome to use a unique sauna and spa section in the attic as well as the modern meeting room facilities. The ambience in all of the 56 rooms is calming and relaxing. Each room is a unique experience worth a visit.

In the spring of 2022, RUNO Hotel Porvoo opened a new art exhibition concept – RUNO Biannual Exhibition. The concept consists of two large group exhibitions per year. The group show ‘Longing’ (which is the second exhibition this year) includes works by artists Valtteri Kivelä, Henna Nuutinen, Irina Pått, Riku Riippa, Jenni Rope and Sini Villi. All artists working in different techniques, their works seem to strech towards each other in a silent desire.
The RUNO Biannual exhibitions are developed and curated by visual artist Fanny Tavastila. The group show continues until April 2023. Warmly welcome!

Our hotel is located at the gate of Porvoo Old Town, in the center of the city. When moving around the city, you don’t need a car and the most famous destinations are just a walking distance from us.
